Introduction to the Present Simple - Affirmative
​
Aim - To introduce and practice the Present Simple tense helping students to talk about daily routines, habits and general truths using the AFFIRMATIVE.
WARM-UP (5-10 min)
Download our Present Simple Question Cards or have some simple questions ready to ask your students, such as,
"What time do you wake up?"
"What do you do on the weekend?" etc
To start them using the present simple naturally in their answers.​
PRESENT SIMPLE RAP + GAP FILL (10-15 min)​
Play the Present Simple Rap once - just listen.​​​
​Download and hand out the Present Simple Rap worksheet with the missing words (Available in3 different levels)
Play the rap again and get the students to fill in the missing words.
Go over the answers together and focus on subject-verb agreement:​
I/You/We/They + base verb
He/She/It + verb + s.​
PRACTICE ACTIVITY (15-20 min)​
Use the online game Present Simple - S or no S? choose the correct verb to practice subject-verb agreement.
The students can then spend a few minutes talking in partners or groups to find out a few facts
about another person and report to the class using the present simple tense.​
EXTRA ACTIVITY (optional)​
Use the online game Present Simple unjumble to practice sentence structure.

LESSON CONCLUSION (5 min)​
Today we learned how to use the Present Simple tense to talk about daily routines, habits and facts.
We focused on affirmative sentences, like:
I play football
She likes music
We practiced how the verb changes with the Present Simple Rap "for he, she, it, we add an S!
