Colour Splash Adventure!

Beginner Level 30 minutes

Aim - To help students recognize and name basic colours through fun activities and to build their confidence by ending on a positive note where everyone is a winner!

Free printable English flashcards - colours - A5 - red, yellow, blue, green

WARM-UP (5 min)

Download the Colour Flashcards (A5) and begin by reviewing the colours and asking each of the children their favourite colour.

OBJECT COLOUR MATCH (10 min)

Before beginning the class prepare a bag with objects of different colours. Ensure there are enough objects for every child to participate.

After reviewing the colours lay the flashcards on the floor (you can use all the colours or just a selection) Take the bag of objects you prepared earlier and one by one ask the children to come and take an object from the bag. Ask them the colour of the object and have them place it on the correct coloured flashcard.

BINGO TIME! (10 - 15 min)

Download the Colours Bingo Game and give each child one of the bingo cards

(don´t forget to laminate them to re-use them in future classes)

One by one call out the colours using the bingo calling cards and when the child identifies the colour on their card they can cover it with a piece of paper.  Once all the colours are covered, they must shout BINGO! to win the game.

(In this game although the bingo cards look different, they all contain the same 9 colours. That way ALL the children in the class will call out at the same time and will all be winners!)

LESSON CONCLUSION (3 min)

Explain to the class that today we learned to name all the colours and matched the objects to their correct colour.  And look, everyone won our colour bingo, so you are all officially “colour experts!” Remember to look for these colours everywhere you go! Fantastic job everybody!
