WARM-UP (5-10 min)
Charades - Students come to the front of the class and mime activities such as, playing football, reading, dancing etc. This gives a chance to activate prior knowledge we will be using during the class.
They can select their own action, or you can download the Guess The Action Cards Use a few examples now; save the rest for later in class.
PRESENT CONTINUOUS VIDEO & EXPLANATION (5-10 min)
Play the Present Continuous Video and after ask the students to explain what they have learned in the video.
Explain the grammar rule - I am + verb + ing to talk about actions we have started but not finished.
PRACTICE ACTIVITY (10 min)
Return to the Guess The Action Cards and continue to mime the actions not previously chosen (or the students can invent their own actions) this time once the action is correctly identified they can confirm by saying, "Yes, I am running".
This can be done as a class or in small groups.
SENTENCE STRUCTURE PRACTICE (10 min)
Use the online game Present continuous unjumble to practice correct sentence structure.
Explain that when a verb ends with the letter "e" we usually remove the "e" before adding the "ing" e.g. dance = dancing.
LESSON CONCLUSION (5 min)
In today's class we learned how to use I am + verb + ing to talk about actions in the first person, that we have started but not yet finished. We have also learned that if a word ends with "e" it is usually removed before adding the "ing" ending, for example dance becomes dancing.
