

Do You Like?

Expressing personal likes & dislikes

Aim - Students will learn the sentence structure, "Do you like.......?" to ask about food preferences.
They will practice the response "Yes, I do" and "No, I don´t".
Finally they will confidently express personal preference with the phrase "I like " and "I don´t like "
WARM-UP (5 min)
Use the What am I? - Food Cards. Read the clues from the cards and ask the students to guess the food. This fun activity will naturally get them thinking about food and food vocabulary.

DO YOU LIKE BROCCOLI ICE CREAM? (10 min)​
Play the Super Simple Song Do You Like Broccoli Ice Cream? ​​​
​Play the song again and encourage the students to sing along.
LIKE & DON´T LIKE QUESTIONNAIRE (20 - 25 min)
Download the class activity Do You Like? - Questionnaire. First ask the students to choose ten foods to include in their questionnaire (They can do this individually or as a class) Once they have written or drawn the foods in the table they can move around the classroom asking their classmates "Do you like ?" and they record the answers on the worksheet.
Remind them they MUST reply with the target vocabulary "Yes, I do" or "No, I don´t".
Finally, they can write a conclusion for the activity e.g. chocolate is the most popular food, or only three people like broccoli.
DRAWING & SPEAKING ACTIVITY (10 - 15 min)​
Ask the students to draw a few things they like and dislike. Once they have finished, they can explain to the class or their table using the vocabulary "I like " & "I don´t like "
LESSON CONCLUSION (5 min)​
Today we learned how to express likes and dislikes using the sentence structure "Do you like ? and the response "Yes, I do" and "No, I don´t". We looked at expressing personal preferences using the phrase "I like and I don´t like
Finally explain that today we focussed on food, but this sentence structure can be used for all types of vocabulary.
