How to Use Flashcards
Fun Ideas for Families and Teachers
Flashcards are one of the most flexible and effective tools for learning English. They help children build vocabulary, improve memory, and make learning active and enjoyable!
Here are some creative ways to use them at home or in the classroom.

For Families
Flashcard Hunt
Hide flashcards around the house. When your child finds one, they say the word or make a short sentence with it.
Match It!
Ask your child to match flashcards to real objects (for example, match the “apple” card to a real apple).
Guess the Card
Hold a flashcard without showing it and give clues — “It’s green and small” — until they guess correctly.
Story Time
Pick a few cards and create a short, funny story using those words together.
Fast Fingers
Lay out the cards face up and say a word. Who can touch the right card first?

For Teachers
Flashcard Race
Stick the cards on the wall or board. Call out a word and have students race to touch or point to the correct one.
Memory Match
Print two sets of cards and play a memory game — flip and find the pairs!
What’s Missing?
Show a few cards, then remove one. Can students remember which one disappeared?
Team Challenge
Hold up a flashcard. The first team to say the word or make a sentence with it gets a point.
Flashcard Chain
Start with one card (for example, “dog”). The next student says a sentence using that word and chooses another card that connects to it. Keep the chain going!
